The Somme Battlefields

Somme TheipvialStay in Amiens, visit Beaumont Hamel, Thiepval, Ulster Tower, La Grande Mine and Ocean Villas café, Amiens cathedral, the Australian National Monument and Le Hamel, overlooking the site where the Red baron was shot down.

Day 1
Travel from local area to Dover with comfort stops en route
Sail Dover / Calais and continue to your hotel in Amiens
Day 2
Breakfast in hotel
Full day guided tour to include: Beaumont Hamel, the only intact WW1 battlefield; Thiepval, the main British monument, where the names of the 72,000 British missing are recorded. There is a small, free museum and gift shop there too; Ulster Tower, a replica of Helen's Tower in County Down and is Monument to the 36th (Ulster Division) with it's free, museum; "La Grande Mine" at La Boisselle, the largest WW1 mine crater; A tea stop at Ocean Villas in the village of Auchonvillers with it's museum and trenches in the back garden.
Return to hotel for dinner
Day 3
Breakfast in hotel
Start the day with a visit to Amiens Cathedral with many WW1 plaques, then enjoy some free time exploring the city.
Join the coach for a visit to the impressive Australian National Monument at Villers Bretonneux It reminds us that this was not just a British theatre of war. Le Hamel is also an Australian site with the remains of trenches. It overlooks the site where the Red Baron was shot down.
Return to hotel for dinner
Day 4
Breakfast in hotel and settle all personal accounts.
Visit to Vimy Ridge, the Canadian National Memorial, near Arras en route for Calais.
Calais / Dover crossing and return to local area with comfort stop en route.
